Sr Dr. Wan Maimun binti Wan Abdullah earned the distinction of being RISM’s first ever-
female President in 2009. She began her career as a Quantity Surveyor at the Public
Works Department in 1981. During her career in the public service, she was involved
with numerous technical and social committees, volunteered as on-the-job trainer and
was appointed as the Registrar of the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia. In 1994,
Sr Dr. Wan Maimun left the public service and pursue her career in Pengurusan Lantas
Berhad and was involved in the project management of KLIA project. In 1999, upon the
completion of KLIA, Sr Dr. Wan Maimun became the Director for Kinta Samudra Sdn.
Bhd. In 2004, she scaled back her professional work to focus on her family and became
a guest lecturer at UTM, UIA, UPM and UKM. Currently she is the Director of Khalid
Ahmad Architect, sits in the Board of Directors of Ahmad Zaki Sdn Bhd, Associate of
AMD Sdn. Bhd and a Visiting Professor in UTM, and holds various posts in the following
professional bodies and government agencies:

1.	 Council Member of Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM)

2.	 Board Member of Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (BQSM)

3.	 Chairman of QS Accreditation Council, BQSM

4.	 Chairman of QS Examination Council, BQSM

5.	 Council Member of National Professional Services Export Council (NAPSEC)

6.	 Chairman of Renovation Conditions of Contract for Construction Industry
     Development Board (CIDB)

7.	 Chairman of Renovation Brochure for CIDB

8.	 Vice President of Association of Construction Project Managers

9.	 President of Wanita Industri Binaan Malaysia (WIBM)

10.	 Protem Committee and Board Member of Malaysia Incorporated Services Berhad

Her social charm and intelligence, makes her an iconic figure in the construction
industry. She epitomised feminine beauty and leadership in this industry. Sr Dr. Wan
Maimun played a key role in various aspect of the construction industry, shaping
cultural trends and promoting various issues. She is currently focusing on women
agenda in the construction industry. RISM took this opportunity to talk to her and seek
her views regarding women’s involvement in the construction Industry.
