RISM Young Achievers’ Award started as the "Science and Technology Recipient Award" in 2000 and was renamed as the "RISM Young Achievers' Award" from 2001 to the present day. In 2001 also, the Organising Committee had spread its wings by not confining to participations in the Klang Valley but opening the participation to the district levels, that is to the branches of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia, namely, the Northern, Johor, East Coast, Sabah, and Sarawak branches. The competition will be in two (2) stages and each participating team is required to pass the Preliminary stage before proceeding to the National Finals.

The competition in the five (5) regions has been very competitive this year, with 56 participating teams from 30 schools. We are confident that the participating students and teacher advisors have gained a better understanding of the surveying profession while completing the given tasks, thereby achieving our objective of creating awareness about the surveying professions. At the same time, our participants have been exposed to other soft skills such as teamwork, communication, creativity, and time management. In the long run, we hope that YAA will provide opportunities for the development of talents and leaders among the youth, with the prospect of becoming our future surveyors in the built environment sector of the economy.
